The player has a preset amount of time to move or attack with the worm before the turn ends (5 to 90 seconds). Movement is primarily accomplished through crawling and jumping, but items such as the jet pack and ninja rope can enable much faster travel and access to more terrain. When "Artillery" mode is not enabled, worms can move across the landscape. There is also a "race" mode where the objective is to reach the end point in less time. In the standard gameplay, the objective is to eliminate all enemy worms and be the last team standing. During each turn, players control only one worm from their teams. You don't have to miss out on hotkeys with a controller. I personally use ControllerCompanion to remap the d'pad and face buttons to F-keys when L1 and R2 are held down.
You can press the Home button of your controller at any point to bring up the Big Picture menu, where you can remap keyboard keys to your controller as you please. Steam will automatically pick a controller configuration for you, unless you have controller support disabled in the options. Launch Steam in Big Picture mode (the icon at the top right of the Steam window), then launch Worms Armageddon. Steam has built-in controller support for any game or program that you run through it. OP is probably also not planning on playing Hysteria, just regular old Worms.
